Dirk Hamilton's career spans 40 years in dozens of studio and live CDs.

I was put in touch with Dirk through a friend with whom I'd worked at a start-up in San Francisco. A radio star on the other side of the microphone for many years, she'd been the DJ who introduced Dirk to West Coast FM audiences by playing his music during her radio program.

I listened to the CD, looked through his previous covers, and sought to create something that hinted a painterly style. I studied the pile of photos available, but nothing clicked. I then looked through some recent videos, and I found a clip taken of Hamilton leaving for the night from a club in Italy. This still, with the help of Photoshop filters, was perfect for my vision of the cover, booklet, and .

 

I managed the printing over calls with the Italian Digipak producer using my fledgling Italian, but it must have been good enough, as the packaging was printed beautifully, and the design captured the music's mood.
